The Taygetos Mountain Range: The highest mountain range in the Peloponnese (2404 m.) is named after the young and beautiful Taygete, who was seduced by Zeus and then hang herself on the mountain after she gave birth to Lacedaemon.

Lakonia, Greece
We organize our workshops on 2 different locations in the province of Lakonia, Peloponnese. Lakonia is paradise for photographers who love the enticing combination of nature and culture. The Evrotas Valley borders with the highrising Taygetos Mountains in the west and the more sloping mountains of the Parnonas in the east. The gorges and the endless olive groves hide small ancient sites, Byzantine churches and monasteries, and traditional villages. Furthermore, the medieval cities of Mystras and Monemvassia, the tower houses on the Mani-peninsula, Ancient Sparta, and the lively harbour town of Gythio offer a dramatic stage for photography.

Our main location is Xirokambi, a lively Greek village, nested at the foot of the Taygetos Mountains, 15 km south of Sparta in the Peloponnese. Here we are located in an old stone house, surrounded by olive and citrus trees, and a large patio under the vine leaves. Before and after the outdoor photo shoots we gather in our workshop accomodation. Here you can use your own laptop or one of our computers for the storage, selection and editing of your photos. You can combine your workshop wit a stay in the Taleton Green Country House, a traditional and ecological inn in Xirokambi.

Our second location is the Eumelia Organic Agrotourism Farm in Gouves, close to the town of Skala. This sustainable farm with its ancient olive grove, the herb fields, and its impressive views towards the surrounding mountains is a great place for those who love outdoor photography. You can combine your workshop with a stay in one of the guesthouses on the farm.

Small Groups

Our workshops have a maximum of 6 participants.

Unless specifically mentioned in a workshop programme, our workshops always go ahead, even with 1 or 2 participants.

Focus on Practice

At Photothema, a workshop means working indeed. Not in a classroom, but outdoors armed with your photo gear. Whether you sign up for a 4-hour workout, an individual workshop or a multi-day workout, we always would always like to see you leave with plenty of photos, new experience and lots of energy to bring your photography to a new level.

Local Culture

During and in between outdoor field shoots we'll make sure that you enjoy the Greek culture. Whenever possible, we combine our workshops with local festivals or special occasions. As there are hardly any festivities in Greece that go without food and drinks, you'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local cuisine as well.
