Greek Summer
The Greek Summer has begun. The sunny days end in long warm evenings: perfect for the plenty of Greek festivals that are held on local squares and in open theatres. We'll be present at several of these festivals to show our new collection of photo souvenirs, featuring Greek nature and culture.
For those who would like to combine their holiday with a special activity: we organize 4-hour photo workouts during the whole summer. These short but intensive workouts are a perfect way to improve your photography skills, while enjoying the Greek outdoors.
You can read more on the festivals, our new products, and the photo workouts in this newsletter.
We look forward to see you in Greece this summer!

Fighting the Greek crisis
In our beautiful part of Greece we are not bothered by strikes or violent demonstrations. However the effects of the crisis we do feel. Therefore we drastically lowered our workshop prices. You can now book a 6-day workshop including accommodation and meals for €799 (was €1099)!
To make this reduction possible, we end the workshops on Fridays around noon and have included one night less in the arrangement. You can still book an extra night for €50 per night per person.

Away from Athens ...
|
Eumelia Photography Week |
.. all is quiet on the Peloponnese
Many a day we read in the news that Greece has come to a standstill because of the next general strike. This might be true for the center of Athens, but here on the Peloponnese life continues as usual. The garbage is collected, kids go to school, buses take their passengers where they want to go. Tourist sites like the Byzantine castle of Mystras open up at 8 in the morning for the public.
Private buses run from the Athens bus station (outside the city center) to the beauty and quiet of the Peloponnese. If you prefer to completely avoid Athens, you can choose to fly to Kalamata airport or arrive by ferry in Patras.
You are more than welcome in beautiful Lakonia! |
Enjoy the Greek Summer! Come and join the Eumelia Photography Week from 5-9 July. With photo workouts on and off the Eumelia Organic Agrotourism Farm.
We start with shooting digital: how to use your camera settings. Day 2 brings us to the Byzantine castle of Geraki and the impressive 12th century monastery of Vrontamas to make beautiful sightseeing photos. On Wednesday we explore the medieval town of Monemvasia with our cameras. Taking creative photos will be today's assignment. Thursday is time for some exercise. Amidst the olive trees we practice to 'shoot' wildlife. On the final day of the Photography Week we start with a short morning session to select your finest photos. To meet again in the evening to enjoy a good glass of wine, discuss the photographic experiences of the week and share the results with other guests and visitors.
In between sessions, you can take a cool dive into the clear blue waters of the Lakonian golf in the afternoons and enjoy the quiet of the long warm evenings on the farm and the starry sky. Read more

| Asking for a Flower Expert |
|
As we are no plant experts - and an extensive guide on the flora of the Taygetos mountain range is unfortunately non-existant - we are looking for someone who can help us classify the flowers we photograph. Are you a flower expert, interested in the wild flowers of Greece and in helping us, then please contact us. |

Spring is in the air
As the end of winter is nearing, the Greek fields, road sides and gorges are gaining more and more colour. Anemones, crocusses, orchids, grape hyacinths and many other flowers pop up between rocks and stones and announce the coming of spring time.
Looking for a flower expert
As we are no plant experts - and an extensive guide on the flora of the Taygetos mountain range is unfortunately non-existant - we are looking for someone who can help us classify the flowers we photograph. Are you a flower expert, interested in the wild flowers of Greece and in helping us, then please contact us.
The flower above is a Giant orchid (Barlia Robertiana. However, for the name of this tiny and beautiful flower, we are looking for the help of an expert.

As memory cards carry your precious photos, it is important to handle them with care. In the previous newsletter we mentioned showed how to make a back-up of your photos, and what you can do to prevent loosing your pics. In part II of this photo tip we focus on copying and formatting.
Copy your photos After one or more days of taking pictures, you need to back up your photos, and erase the files from your memory card to create space. You can move the photos manually to a disk drive or hard disk. Some programmes like to give you a helping hand and will move the photos for you. Meaning, the photos will be erased from you memory card and placed onto your drive. But what if you get a power failure, or your batteries run low? Or what if some computer bug is playing up? Repeating the backup? No, you can't because the files are no longer on your memory card!
It will take just a minute more to COPY the files, and to make sure they are safely on your backup medium. Never erase the photos till you are absolutely sure you have backed them up correctly.
Format your memory card Many people delete their photos with the memory card in the card reader, or the camera hooked up via a USB cable. However, it is much better to delete your photos with the options that are on your camera. It minimizes the chances of corrupting your memory card. An even better option is to format the memory card, as your cameras' software will check your card for little faults. And these 'bad sectors' will not be used again. Look in your manual how to format your card and use it every time to clean your memory card. |
